Name: Joan-Marie Barcus

Position: Director of Small Group Ministries

Hometown: Moved from Rome, GA to Albany, GA at age 12.

Family: Husband, Jay.  Daughter, Brantley.

Favorite Books: The Bible, The Glorious Journey (Charles Stanley), and any good devotional book!

On the iPod:  My husband is the one with the iPod!  I just listen to whatever music he plays!  I probably wouldn’t even know how to use and iPod!

On the Tivo: Law & Order, Lost, American Idol, CSI, King of Queens , Everybody Loves Raymond.

A Fond Memory: I have two days that stand out above the rest… my wedding day and the day our baby girl was born.  Jay and I dated for 9 years before we got married, but we didn’t admit that we were dating for the first 2 years.  Haha!  Then, we prayed for a baby for three years.  When we finally got her, it was incredible!

Influences: Jesus, my parents, my husband, Mrs. Marsh, Coach Joiner, The Pointe Staff!

Favorite Book of The Bible and Why: I love 1 John.  The first scripture I memorized was 1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins to him, he can be depended on to forgive us and cleanse us from every wrong… (The Living Bible).

What You Want to Say to The People at The Pointe:  I hope that you see something different about The Pointe.  I hope you see Jesus in a way that you’ve never seen Him!  You are so loved, and God has a special plan for your life.

As Director of Small Group Ministries at The Pointe, Joan-Marie believes that Small Group participation is one of the keys to spiritual growth and discipleship. Until God opened the door for ministry at The Pointe, she worked as Community Relations Manager at Morningside of Albany, an Assisted Living Community.

Joan-Marie has a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Georgia Southwestern State University and a Master of Science Degree in Management from Troy University. She served the community as Miss Albany 2000, where she personally raised more than $60,000 to build homes with Habitat for Humanity International. By competing and earning Miss America Scholarship dollars, she was able to graduate from college, debt-free.

Since a very young age, Joan-Marie has seen God’s presence in her life. She feels that He has blessed her by allowing her to serve in ministry with her husband, Jay, as they share the message of Jesus Christ at The Pointe. Jay and Joan-Marie have one daughter, Brantley.
