Name: Jay Barcus
Position: Director of Sunday Services
Hometown: Albany, GA.
Family: Joan-Marie (wife) and Brantley (daughter)
Favorite Books: The Bible, Velvet Elvis (Bell), Blue Like Jazz (Miller), Case for Faith, Case for Christ, Case for Creator (Strobel), The Air I Breathe, I Am Not But I Know I Am (Giglio), The Unquenchable Worshipper (Redman), Wild at Heart (Eldredge), The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z (Brooks), and anything involving Batman, the Hulk or any other superhero (yeah, they would be comics... so I might be a nerd)
On the iPod: Hillsong United, Charlie Hall, Chris Tomlin, David Crowder, Leeland, Matt Redman, Fee, Boston, Pink Floyd, Alice in Chains, Foo Fighters, Coldplay and the most talented and amazing band of all time, MUSE!!
On the Tivo: The Office, Lost, Heroes, Red Sox games, any Law and Order, Smallville, Rob and Big and I hate to say it but – the Hills.
Favorite Movies: Braveheart, The Great Escape, 28 Days Later, Shaun of the Dead, Rocky 4, Top Gun, the Karate Kid, Jaws, Last of the Mohicans, The Sandlot, Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, Signs and Cool Hand Luke.
A Fond Memory: November 9th, 2007 – The birth of our baby girl, Brantley Kathryn Barcus. People can tell you about it or you can read about it, but nothing can prepare you for the amazing experience of the birth of your child. It is by far the closest to Christ I have ever felt in my entire life.
Influences: Jesus Christ, the Bible, my wife, my mom, Bobby Joiner, Louie Giglio, the staff at the Pointe.
Favorite Book of The Bible and Why: Galatians – The theme, justification by faith, is defended, explained, and applied. Salvation is by faith, not works.
What You Want to Say to The People at The Pointe: I hope all of you at the Pointe realize that this is not our church, but your church. We are all in this together. Also, I want to encourage you all to get plugged into ministry because Christianity is not a spectator sport. I feel closest to God when I am serving Him and this church, and I want the same experience for you.
Jay serves as the Director of Sunday Services at The Pointe. He also served in youth ministry for several years, and has developed a passion for teaching adult studies as well as public preaching.
After graduating from Georgia Southwestern State University, Jay worked as a Case Manager for Albany Advocacy Resource Center, where he also served as a volunteer for the Special Olympics. He soon began graduate school at Troy University, and later accepted a youth ministry position at a local United Methodist Church.
In 2005, Jay graduated with his Master of Science Degree in Management, with a concentration in Leadership and Organizational Effectiveness. He is now in the process of answering a long time call to ministry as he pursues his formal ministerial education at Asbury Theological Seminary.
Jay is married to Joan-Marie Barcus, and they have one daughter, Brantley.
